*Ozeki Kirishima*, who is aiming for promotion to Yokozuna, went for
degeiko to Isenoumi beya in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, today and took part in a
total of 15 bouts with new Sekiwake *Fujinokawa* and others. He said that
he put pressure on the opponents with a fierce attack and that it was a
good performance, and that he was glad that he was able to take each bout
well. The day before, he visited Isegahama beya and faced Sekiwake
Atamifuji and new Komusubi Hakunofuji, among others. He seemed satisfied,
saying, "I'm still full of energy. I feel surprisingly good." Having lost
in the yusho playoffs for two consecutive tournaments since the May Basho,
he is aiming to win the Emperor's Cup in the coming basho for the first
time since the March Basho. Looking ahead to the first day on the 13th, he
was enthusiastic, saying, "I want to keep challenging myself!!"

*Fujinokawa* , the new Sekiwake, had 19 bouts against* Ozeki Kirishima* and
others who came for degeiko to his heya in Bunkyo Ward. He attacked boldly
with a sharp tachiai, and there was a moment when he powerfully lifted the
Ozeki, who weighs 25 kilograms more than him. "The Ozeki kept picking me
(to fight). I couldn't win for a while, but I was able to hit with all my
might and my body was moving well," he said, showing his confidence. "There
are some Sekitori that I don't do well against," he said, explaining that
he went to Isegahama beya the day before. He faced *Yoshinofuji*, against
whom he had lost all six previous matches, including when he was in Juryo,
and plans to continue going for degeiko to prepare. The 21-year-old,
the *youngest
rikishi in Makuuchi*, showed his energetic spirit ahead of the Aki Basho,
saying, "I'm feeling good. I've been able to stay injury-free."

*Close friends Wakamotoharu and Fujinokawa reveal a behind-the-scenes story
from their May match..*

The Aki Basho will begin on the 13th. The new Banzuke has already been
announced, and the newly promoted Sekiwake *Fujinokaw*a and Maegashira 11th
*Wakamotoharu* revealed a behind-the-scenes story of one of their past
matches on the program "Junk SPORTS" (Fuji TV) which aired on the 5th. The
two faced each other in the May tournament. "It was the final day, right?"
"It was the final day," they said, reminiscing about the time amicably
while shopping at the discount store Costco. Both were guaranteed to have a
makekoshi going into the match. *Wakamotoharu* charged in headfirst,
but *Fujinokawa
*quickly changed direction and won with a slap-down. *Wakamotoharu*, who
was defeated in an instant, still seems dissatisfied, saying, "It was the
last match of the tournament, so I was fired up and wanted to hit him hard,
but... he henka'd brilliantly." *Fujinokawa* described *Wakamotoharu'*s
demeanor at the time, saying, "He had a different vibe than usual." "His
hand movements were completely different..." He added that afterwards, in
the shitakubeya, *Wakamotoharu* angrily said to him, "If you do that again,
I'll hit you with a kachiage!" *Wakamotoharu* explained the situation,
saying, "My younger brother (*Wakatakakage*) had just won the yusho, so the
whole Ichimon had gathered on one side (of the dressing room) to
celebrate." Even so, he admitted that he was thinking to himself, "That
bastard... that damn new recruit." *Wakamotoharu* is 32 years old, and
*Fujinokawa* is 21. Despite the age difference, once they're not competing,
they seem to get along well, saying, "We're probably good friends."
