Now that the Banzuke has been announced, the serious training begins.
Yokozuna Oonosato resumed full-scale training for the Aki Basho by facing
with lower-ranked rikishi in 15 consecutive bouts at the Nishonoseki heya
headquarters in Ami-machi, Ibaraki Prefecture. He confirmed his right-hand
grip and left-hand thrusting technique and thoroughly practiced an
offensive style of sumo. His sharp tachiai indicated his good condition,
and he was satisfied, saying, "The angle of the impact was good, and my
hips were firmly planted." His Oyakata Nishonoseki , who watched from
beside the dohyo, encouraged him by saying, "Don't be too defensive," when
he went on the defensive. He had been away from theheya in August for the
summer jungyo, and he expressed his gratitude, saying, "It's refreshing to
have direct instructions from the Oyakata." Said Shisho explained his
objective objective, saying, "Just having an offensive mindset makes a big
difference."
Injured Wakatakakage trained at his heya in Tokyo today. The approximately
30-centimeter surgical scar on his left leg, on which he underwent
emergency surgery for compartment syndrome on July 1st, was visibly
painful, but he worked up a sweat with shiko and teppo. He reportedly
resumed exercise in mid-August. His Oyakata Arashio said, "His muscles seem
stiff, and he's still afraid to face the others. I've told him to be
careful of the pain and not rush things."
