Yoshinofuji had his first sumo keiko session of the current jungyo. After
facing Takayasu and others, he reflected, "It went pretty well." Although
he suffered five consecutive losses at the start of the Autumn Tournament,
he staged a comeback to finish with a 9-6 record. He is considered a strong
candidate to return to Sanyaku next basho, , which takes place in his home
region. "I'm going to go hard right from day one," he said with
determination. "I want to bring joy to people by winning my matches."
Reflecting on his turnaround during the Autumn Tournament, Yoshinofuji
said, "I never felt like it was over. I hadn't posted a makekoshi yet. I
felt like, 'I can still afford to lose two more bouts'—that was the
mindset." He intends to bring that characteristic positivity to his
home-region tournament as well. An event to rally support for him will also
be held in Kumamoto on the 31st of this month.
