The July (Nagoya) Basho starts this Sunday July 12th and will run till July
26th. In Nagoya.

The hurdles to overcome are high, but Kirishima, who tied for the yusho
last basho, will approach them with composure, saying, "I want to continue
doing things the same way as always." The head of the judging department,
Asakayama (former Ozeki KaioU), has indicated that if Kirishima achieves a
high-level victory, the path to promotion to Yokozuna will open up. The
30-year-old Ozeki once fell from his position as Ozeki due to a neck
injury. After that, he recovered through extensive training. His unassuming
attitude is a sign of his confidence that if he trains sufficiently, he
will achieve good results like before. He truly lives up to his word. After
the banzuke was announced on June 29th, he trained intensely, and on the
2nd, he went to Sadogatake beya for degeiko. He chose Fujinokawa and
others who move well and had a total of 10 bouts. "I'm determined to keep
improving," he declared, and on the 4th, he went to Isenoumi beya to face
the likes of Juryo Nishikigi. After that, he continued to seek out training
partners, sparring with rikishi in heyas like Sakaigawa. He is striving
with an energetic attitude to reach the top of the rankings and build a
solid foundation. Facing the pressure of the dohyo, his Shisho Otowayama
(former Yokozuna Kakuryuu), urged his protégé to be aware of the importance
of not losing even at the keiko-ba. By demonstrating his unwavering
stability among the top ranks, the fulfillment of his long-cherished wish
will come into view. "My body has fully recovered," said Kirishima. He is
fully prepared and ready to go.

Fujinokawa went to Sadogatake beya today at its lodgings in Nagoya for
degeiko. He participated in nine practice bouts with Sekiwake Kotoshouhou,
Kotoeihou and Nishikigi who was also training there. After that, he had
three bouts against Ozeki Kotozakura, for a total of twelve bouts. In
preparation for the Nagoya basho, he has been energetically going for
degeiko , and has also had the opportunity to spar with Ozeki Kirishima and
others. This was his last degeiko session before the basho, and he
reflected on what had happened so far, saying, "I'm feeling tired, so my
movements weren't very good, but I was able to train with Ozeki, so I'll do
my best to 'repay' him during the basho." In the last tournament, when he
was ranked East Maegashira 1, he had a makekoshi of 7-8-. His rank remains
the same for this tournament as well, and he will once again be challenging
for promotion to Sanyaku, which is still within his reach. "My body is
getting tired, so I'll adjust my training tomorrow and the day after and
commit to the tournament," he said, looking ahead to day one.
