Ozeki Aonishiki explained the progress of his left leg's recovery. Although
he did some shiko on the dohyo, he focused on basic exercises such as
suriashi below the dohyo. On this day, he moved his body without tabi socks
and other support for his left leg. He explained, "I want to get the
feeling back in my foot," and regarding the injury, he said, "It's getting
better and better. I'm going to take things slowly and not rush it." He
also revealed that he expects to resume sumo keiko after the banzuke is
released on the 31st. On the 21st, it was announced on the Ajigawa beya's
official website that a yusho parade for the Nagoya yusho will be held in
Koto Ward, Tokyo on September 6th. "I've never done anything like it
before, so I'm looking forward to it. My wife is working hard to make it
happen. I'm happy because I didn't think it would be possible," he said
happily.

Sekiwake Atamifuji showed smooth progress in his training. On this day, he
had 10 keiko bouts against Kazuma, Ounokatsu Fujiryouga, Daiseizan, and
Ura, winning 8 and losing 2. He had a 7-match winning streak at some point,
and his sumo style, which involved receiving the tachiai and then moving
forward, attacking and overwhelming his opponents with pressure, were
particularly noticeable. During one bout, he slipped and fell off the
dohyo, but it was not serious. Jungyo director Takadagawa Oyakata (former
Sekiwake Akinoshima) praised him, saying, "He doesn't do keiko bouts every
day, but he is training energetically while monitoring his physical
condition." Looking ahead to Aki Basho, where Atamifuji is on an Ozeki run,
Takadagawa expressed his expectations, saying, "He has come very close to
winning the yusho. The rest is up to him. I think he is thinking about it
as he goes along."

Two former classmates from Nihon University, Komusubi Yoshinofuji and
Maegashira 15W Kazuma, faced each other in two  bouts. At Nihon University,
Yoshinofuji was the captain and Kazuma was the vice-captain, and they both
led the team as regulars from their first year. Although they had been
facing each other doing butsugari during this jungyo, this was the first
time they had competed in a direct bout. Yoshinofuji chose Kazuma and the
rematch between the two classmates since their university days took place.
Kazuma won both bouts.
