[sumo] Seeing sumo in Japan

Hi everyone! I'm a longtime lurker in the group and will be headed to Japan (Kyoto and Tokyo) next week for Star Wars celebration!

There aren't any tournaments happening while I'm there, but I'd like to try to see some sort of sumo that's not the touristy entertainment shows. Is the public able to go to sumo stables to observe training, etc?  If so, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to go about doing that?

I'd also love to try chankonabe too!

Finally, are there any other 'don't-miss' sumo things to see or do while in the Tokyo area?
