<span style="color:rgb(53,60,65);font-family:Inter,-apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,"Segoe UI",Roboto,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif,"Apple Color Emoji","Segoe UI Emoji","Segoe UI Symbol"">Nabatame has gone kyujo on the 17th, Day 5, after submitting a medical certificate stating he required time off  due to epidemic parotitis (commonly known as mumps). He had returned to Juryo for the first time in seven tournaments and held a 2–2 record heading into today. His Oyakata Futagoyama revealed that the absence would be limited to just one day, stating, "He is sitting out only today; he will compete starting tomorrow (Day 6)." This marks the seventh time he has withdrawn from a tournament, the last instance being the Kyushu Tournament last November. His scheduled opponent for Day 5, newly promoted Tanji, will be awarded a win by fusen. The total number of rikishi in Juryo and above withdrawing from this tournament has now reached four, including Yokozuna Houshouryuu.</span>
