Yokozuna Oonosato did sumo with sekitori for the first time on this tour, winning all nine matches against Fujiryouga. He had been absent from the 11th to the 15th due to treatment for his left shoulder. Looking ahead to Aki Basho, where he aims to win his first yusho in a year, he spoke positively, saying, "My body was moving well. There are no problems, so I will do my best." In Nagoya, his first basho back after missing two consecutive ones, he finally secured a kachikoshi on the 14th day, but was forced to go through some tough battles with a record of 9-6 . "I had decided that I would absolutely not miss any basho. Losing is an experience, winning is an experience. I gained a lot," he reflected. The venue has a covered dohyo that was donated in 2014 by the Sumo Rikishis' Association, which consists of Sekitori, in response to the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Oonosato, who visited the area before his match, said, "I felt something when I saw the scenery around town. I may not be able to encourage people through sumo, but I want to show everyone a good performance."</span>
