He had 10 consecutive bouts against Yokozuna Oonosato, finishing with 2 wins and 8 losses. Though the number of bouts was small, the content was intense. Fujinokawa, who said, "No tactics, just moving forward," attacked with fierce thrusts, pushes, and nodowa, while Oonosato counterattacked. The small, 177 cm, 121 kg wrestler faced the challenge head-on, defeating the Yokozuna twice by oshidashi. Oonosato's Oyakata, Nishonoseki wanted to have him compete against a fast-moving young rikishi, so he approached Fujinokawa's father, Kabutoyama Oyakata, about a possible match-up, and it became a reality. This was the first time that they faced each other since training at the sumo training center they attended as new apprentices, and Fujinokawa said , "The Yokozuna told me, 'This brings back memories.' The pressure was intense and he was soft . There was nothing I could do. It was a great experience." As he tears through the dohyo, his skills and popularity are on the rise. He is already looking forward to the first basho where he will face off against the top rikishi, and is determined to create a sensation, saying, "After all, I've come this far. I'm going for wins and aiming for a kachikoshi."</span>
