The victory parade was canceled today due to heavy rain. Ajigawa beya made
the announcement. The parade was scheduled to be held in Koto Ward, Tokyo,
from 6 p.m. today. According to those involved, the rain was heavier than
expected, so they consulted with the police. They decided to cancel the
parade after considering the wishes of his Ajigawa Oyakata, his wife Eri,
who had been making the preparations, and Aonishiki himself. On the day of
the parade, Aonishiki was scheduled to ride in a rickshaw, led by the head
of the town council and the head of his koenkai, and proceed from near the
Senda Police Box, through Museum Street, to the Ajigawa beya premises.
Yesterday, the heya had indicated that they would proceed as planned
despite the rain forecast. However, they also stated that they would cancel
if a warning was issued in the area. With the first day of Aki basho
scheduled for the 13th, there are no plans to reschedule the parade.
There were various reactions from fans on social media. On X (formerly
Twitter), many expressed understanding for the cancellation, saying things
like, "It was a difficult decision," and "It can't be helped. It's for
safety reasons." With the first day of Aki basho scheduled for the 13th,
some posts also expressed concern for the Ozeki's health, saying things
like, "I was worried he might catch a cold. Do your best for the September
tournament," and "Aonishiki, please get a good rest tonight." On the other
hand, some fans were quick to anticipate further success, saying, "We're
looking forward to a parade to celebrate your promotion to Yokozuna!"
