Komusubi Daieishou went for degeiko to Sadogatake beya in Matsudo City,
Chiba Prefecture today. In his first keiko session since the announcement
of the banzuke, he took part in a total of 11 bouts against Ozeki
Kotozakura, Kotoshouhou and Kotoeihou, winning 3 and losing 8. "I've been
doing keiko at the heya since yesterday, and I'm getting a little better. I
want to pick up the pace from here," he said, wiping away sweat. Last year,
he missed the entire Nagoya tournament due to a torn right calf muscle and
was demoted from Sekiwake, but in the last tournament he achieved 10 wins
as East Maegashira 4. In the banzuke announcement on August 31st, he
returned to Sanyaku for the first time in 7 tournaments, but he showed his
determination to aim for promotion to Ozeki again, saying, "Just returning
isn't the end goal. I don't think you can grow without setting goals. I
have to aim higher and higher, so I want to do it with that mindset."

Ozeki Kotozakura officially began his training on the 3rd at Sadogatake
beya in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture. He had 15 bouts against Komusubi
Daieishou who came for degeiko and Makuuchi  Kotoshouhou and Kotoeihou. His
aggressive, forward-moving style resulted in an excellent record of 11 wins
and 4 losses. Due to a left ankle injury, he did not participate in keiko
during the summer jungyo in August. Despite the long break, he seemed to
feel good about his performance, saying with a bright expression, "I moved
better than I expected. My feet moved well, and I was able to stay at the
edge of the dohyo well." In the previous tournament, when he was in danger
of demotion, he narrowly escaped the crisis with an 8-7 record. The Ozeki,
who is expected to rise to the occasion, was full of fighting spirit,
saying, "I'm not just aiming to compete for the yusho, I intend to win the
yusho."
