During the Aki Jungyo stop in Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture, on the 20th,
Ozeki Kirishima began practicing a specific style of shiko associated with
the late former Yokozuna Kitanoumi, a legend who won 24 yusho. Kirishima
sought instruction after noticing that Kotoeihou had been seeing positive
results from learning the technique under Yamahibiki Oyakata (ex Ganyuu), a
deshi of Kitanoumi who also serves as deputy director of the Jungyo
department. "You have to lower your hips straight down without leaning your
torso forward," Kirishima explained. "I’m grateful for the guidance, but
it’s incredibly grueling—my legs are completely shot." Although Yamahibiki
Oyakata instructed him to perform 300 shikos, Kirishima managed only 200.
During the day’s keiko, he faced Gounoyama, Fujiseiun, and Shounannoumi in
succession, demonstrating his true strength by getting 13 wins against just
one loss. This marked his first time participating in sumo training since
the Kyoto stop on the 16th; he had sat out the sessions in Maishima (Osaka)
on the 17th and Himeji on the 18th. The reason for this unusual absence
from the keiko-ba, where he is typically a constant presence, was the
introduction of this more demanding shiko regimen. In the recent Autumn
Tournament, where he made his second consecutive bid for promotion to
Yokozuna, Kirishima finished with an 8–7 record. On the 13th day, he
managed to defeat Yokozuna Oonosato, ending a 10-match losing streak
against him and ultimately secured a kachikoshi on the final day. "I simply
didn't train enough for the Autumn Tournament. That’s all there is to it."
With the 19-day Aki Jungyo now in its 14th day and less than a week
remaining until the Banzuke is announced for the Kyushu Tournament,
Kirishima has begun to ramp up his training intensity.
Official now. Enhou has gotten married, his heya announced on its official
Instagram and other social media platforms on the 20th. The news was also
shared on the X account of the heya's koenkai. Enhou himself provided a
statement expressing his resolve for the future. "Thank you so much for
your constant, warm support," he wrote. "I would like to share the personal
news that I have recently gotten married." He continued, "Never forgetting
my gratitude toward those who support me, I will now take on the
responsibilities of a head of a household, and I intend to dedicate myself
even more fully to the path of sumo." He added, "I humbly ask for your
continued guidance, encouragement, and warm support." The posts on his
official LINE and X accounts included a photograph of him wearing a formal
black montsuki haori hakama (traditional ceremonial attire). The heya noted
that a press conference is planned for the near future; however, the posts
did not disclose details regarding his spouse or the date the marriage was
registered. Enhou is a native of Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
