Subject: [Sumo news] - More on the Miyagino beya final closure
To: Sumo Newsletter2 <sumo-newsletter2 at googlegroups.com>
The decision to release Miyagino beya from its custody at Isegahama beya
was approved by a majority vote of the board of directors on the 28th.
Asakayama Oyakata (former Ozeki KaioU), a riji of the Isegahama Ichimon,
showed consideration for the former Miyagino rikishi whose heya has now
ceased to exist, saying, "We will take measures to ensure that no one feels
anxious." He will continue to inspect the keiko-ba as the representative of
the Ichimon. After former Yokozuna Hakuhou, who was Miyagino Oyakata,
retired from the Kyokai in June of last year, his deshi remained at
Isegahama beya. Asakayama Oyakata said, "Until now, things have been
uncertain. Now it's all come to a final conclusion." Isegahama Oyakata
(former Yokozuna Terunofuji) indicated his intention to explain the
situation to all the rikishi early next week and stated his resolve,
saying, "My determination to do my best remains unchanged. I will just do
my best with what needs to be done."
Magaki Oyakata (former Makuuchi rikishi Ishiura), who was formerly attached
toe Miyagino beya and some thought he may step up and inherit Miyagino
beya, seemed surprised, saying, "It was such sudden news, I was shocked."
He added with determination, "I have always just thought about what I can
do for the remaining rikishi, and I will continue to do so."
Fujishima, the head of public relations (former Ozeki Musouyama),
explained, "We are always thinking about the rikishi first. Today marks the
end of the line."
A former Miyagino beya associate prefaced his remarks by saying, "I still
have doubts about the closure of the heya," and then revealed his true
feelings, saying, "When Miyagino Oyakata left the Kyokai, I thought there
would be no revival of the heya. There is no koenkai, so there is no
organization to support it. The rikishi have pretty much settled into the
current heya and have become stronger. Even if it were revived some rikishi
might wonder, 'Why now?'"
