Juryo yobidashi Kunio, by far the best looking and with the best voice,
celebrated his 53rd birthday today. If we're being honest, he doesn't look
a day older than 30.. As he usually celebrates his birthday during the
Hatsu basho, he said, "I'm just one full cycle away from retirement,
exactly 12 years from now. I don't feel any special awareness of my work
just because it's today." On this day, he announced the matches between
Enhou and Nishinoryuu, and Kayou and Tochitaikai. He experienced the
excitement of the crowd during the Enhou match and was surprised, saying,
"I realized once again how popular he is. It was a shame that he lost, but
the cheers were incredible." His distinctive beautiful voice was still in
full force that day, adding color to the dohyo with his announcements. "At
this age, I just hope to stay healthy and free from illness and injury. I
don't have any high expectations," he said.
