Tamawashi suffered his ninth consecutive loss from day 1. He was unable to
cope with the henka at the start of the bout against Shishi and was thrown
to the ground. In the dressing room, he expressed his frustration at the
unsatisfactory match, saying, "Shishi runs away, huh? I didn't have that
image of him. But it's my own fault for losing to myself," pointing at
himself and taking the blame for his defeat. In the 2023 Aki basho, when
he was ranked Maegashira 3, he suffered 11 consecutive losses from the day
1. As he continues to struggle in this basho, he described his current
situation by saying, "I'm battling in sumo. I'm not battling against the
stars." But the iron man of the sumo world's spirit is not broken. "I'm
looking forward to a first time meeting tomorrow..," he said, looking ahead
to his first encounter with Asahakuryuu. "I'll train tonight," he said,
doing the gesture of the victory tegatana knife chops.

During the second half of Makuuchi, Urakaze Oyakate (ex-Shikishima), who
served as a shinpan under the red tassel, injured his right leg. Ozeki
Kirishima, after pushing down Wakamotoharu, charged towards Urakaze at the
edge of the dohyo. After the matches ended, Urakaze walked away on his
own, saying, "It hurts... my right knee..." Chief Judge Onoue expressed
concern, saying, "He said, 'I'm gone.' It's scary, isn't it?" Oyakata
Urakaze has been experiencing a series of misfortunes, including having a
rikishi fall onto his knee during maezumo on day 4..
