Aonishiki beat Yokozuna Oonosato to secure his eighth win and a kachikoshi.
He is now just two wins away from the 10 wins needed to return to Ozeki,
with six days remaining. He watched Oonosato come out charging with both
hands. He was pushed to the edge of the dohyo, but he dodged the tawara,
and Oonosato, who was skillfully thrown off balance, could not regain his
balance and stepped out of the dohyo. "My body just moved on its own." He
defeated an opponent he had lost to in all previous matches. He is not
getting carried away with his kachikoshi. "I think the real challenge
starts now. I want to stay focused and do my best from tomorrow onwards."
He said that he and his Oyakata "talked a lot about how to approach the
match" before the bout, and he believes that preparation "led to today's
result." There was even more tape on his left ankle and below than the
previous day. He injured his ankle at the Natsu basho, and on day 8, he
also injured his big toe. In the shitakubeya, his big toe's nail was
bleeding. Regarding the treatment, he explained, "I had a doctor come from
Tokyo to treat me, and I'm feeling much better." When asked about appearing
to be in pain dohyo-side, he drew a line, saying, "Let's leave the topic of
injuries here." He needs just two more wins to reach 10. "I'm not
particularly thinking about it, and I want to do my best in the remaining
six matches so that everyone in Nagoya can be happy," he said
enthusiastically.

Ozeki Kotozakura, who is in danger of demotion, suffered his fifth loss
today. He was defeated by Hakunofuji by uwatenage,  bringing his record to
4-5 . His opponent got close to him, and when he tried to move forward, he
was thrown by an overarm throw and tumbled out of the dohyo. When he
returned to the shitakubeya, he banged loudly on the door near the entrance
with his left hand, showing his frustration. He did not speak to the press.
