Juryo 5 Oushouumi is out, after submitting a medical certificate to the
Kyokai stating that he had suffered a fracture of the fibula shaft and that
surgical treatment would be necessary. He sustained the injury in his match
against Kazekenou yesterday, which he lost. Naruto Oyakata said, "He broke
a thin bone in his shin. He will have surgery today. He'll be fine once the
bone heals. There's no need to be discouraged. He's still young,"
expressing his hope for a speedy recovery. He has already been hospitalized
in Aichi Prefecture and will not return to the basho. He is certain to be
demoted to Makushita for Aki . This is Oushouumi's tenth withdrawal from a
tournament, the first since Haru last year. His opponent today, Kitanowaka,
will get the freebie. There are now three sekitori who have withdrawn from
this tournament.
