Yokozuna Oonosato showed excellent form today in his first keiko with
sekitori in two days. On this tour, he faced sekitori for the first time on
the 20th in Kesennuma City, winning all nine matches against Fujiryouga.
Today, he first won four straight matches against Fujiseiun . Next, he
challenged Sekiwake Atamifuji and won three out of three matches. In his
practice with Fujiseiun, Oonosato showed his characteristic movements, such
as using a left-handed otsuke to lift his opponent's upper body. In recent
matches against Atamifuji, a candidate for Ozeki and against whom he has
suffered three consecutive losses, there was a moment when Atamifuji got a
left-hand grip and forced him out of the ring. Still, his quick reflexes
were noticeable, such as forcing him out from a solid position with a
right-hand inside and a left-hand over-arm grip, and for blocking his
opponent's right-hand grip and switching to a left-hand grip for a
morozashi. After keiko, the Yokozuna also participated in practice with
children and worked up a good sweat. He said, "My body is moving well, and
I was able to use my left hand. My condition is not bad. We are in the
second half of the tour, so I need to keep improving." The venue for the
Otawara City tour on the 23rd is the Tochigi Prefectural Kenhoku Gymnasium,
where he won the individual adult division of the National Sports Festival
when he was a fourth-year student at Nippon Sport Science University. He
said he was looking forward to visiting again, saying, "It's been a while
since then."
