The jungyo was held in Fukushima City on the 22nd, and Hakunofuji, who was
celebrating his 23rd birthday, was celebrated with a total of 23 practice
bouts by Yokozuna Oonosato, and Ozekis Kirishima, and Kotozakura, the same
number as his age. First, he faced Kotozakura, then Kirishima, and finally
Yokozuna Oonosato. Covered in sand, Hakunofuji completed the bouts to the
end and expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am very grateful. It is a
luxury." He said he is most grateful to his parents, and that he had called
them that day to express his thanks. "When I was little, I looked forward
to receiving presents, but now I am the one giving them. Ever since I came
to Tokyo, the first thing I've told my mother is, 'Thank you for giving
birth to me.'" His mother plans to watch him at the Aki basho, where he is
considered a strong candidate for promotion to Sanyaku. He wants to repay
her kindness with his success.

On the 22nd, Arashio Oyakata indicated that treatment would be the top
priority. He explained injured Wakatakakage's current condition, saying,
"He has started rehabilitation. He is walking normally and has no problems
with daily life." On the other hand, regarding the timing of his return, he
said, "Don't think about it. He was once demoted to Makushita (due to a
knee injury)," and spoke on behalf of his disciple, saying, "Work hard on
your rehabilitation. He wants to stand on the dohyo again. If nothing
further happens, I'd like to consult with a doctor and decide on the next
steps," he said.
