Makushita 16E Ryuushou (Oitekaze) had 32  bouts at his heya in Saitama
Prefecture. He trained intensely with his younger heyamate Oomori, and
others, to the point where their mages came undone and their hair became
disheveled (do they even have mages yet?). He won 19 bouts, and when he got
his favored hidari yotsu, he showed some good throws and yoris.. "It was
good keiko. I want to do the the most bouts in the heya, as is my custom.
But my footwork isn't there yet," he said, remaining determined. He
graduated from Nihon University and debuted at the Nagoya tournament last
year at Makushita 60  tsukedashi. He had a kachikoshi for three consecutive
tournaments, but in the last two tournaments he has been unable to break
through the wall of the Makushita joi, with a record of 3 wins and 4
losses. "I want to win at least 5 bouts in the Autumn tournament." The
entry of Oomori, who is the same age, has been an inspiration. He will
train hard this summer and step onto the dohyo.

Another promising young rikishi from Oitekaze who has been stalling
recently.  Kaki, Makushita 21, had 17 bouts. He used his 191cm height to
his advantage, winning 11 bouts with powerful pushes. "I had a good
session. I focused on doing my own style of sumo," he nodded. At one point,
he received guidance from Kitajin Oyakata (former Komusubi Endou), a fellow
Ishikawa native who was at the keiko-ba wearing a white mawashi . Last
summer tournament, he made his professional sumo debut. He won the
Jonokuchi yusho at Nagoya and the Sandanme yusho at Kyushu. However, he
went 1-6 at Makushita 11 in Haru. He continued to stagnate at Nagoya, going
3-4 at Makushita 21. "I had a lot of wasted opportunities at Nagoya. I need
to be more composed," he said, pointing out his weaknesses. His heya has
many other promising makushita rikishi, including Oomori and Ryuushou. "I'm
feeling inspired. I want to give my all in my own style of sumo," he said,
his determination evident.
