Ahead of Aki, Makushita Fudouhou (Tokitsukaze) had a total of 11 bouts at
his heya in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, on the 8th.  During keiko, he made use of
his impressive physique of 183 cm and 160 kg to win eight straight bouts,
including yorikiri.  However, he couldn't maintain that momentum, biting
his lip and saying, "It was too hot and I got exhausted in the second
half." He usually attends the sumo training school, so it had been a while
since he had done sumo at his heya. During his time at Tokyo University of
Agriculture, he won four titles and debuted at Haru basho at Makushita
tsukedashi 60. He had a record of 4 wins and 3 losses in that basho, 5 wins
and 2 losses in Natsu, and 6 wins and 1 loss last basho, where he
participated in the yusho playoffs. He did not win the yusho, but his
performance has been steadily improving. "There were a lot of spectators
during the yusho playoff, but I wasn't nervous. I want to continue this
momentum and win all seven bouts in the coming basho," he said
enthusiastically. Tokifudou, who is the same age as him, was promoted to
Juryo for this coming basho . They are mutually inspiring to each other. "I
told him to go and check out Juryo first and teach me a lot of things," he
said, indicating his intention to use it as a reference for the future.
